We made a stop in Oatman to visit the old west. Burros roam the streets free and cowboys have shootouts in the street.
Day 1 on Route 66
Most of you know that we traveled from KS to CA, NOT following 66 on the way west. We stopped to see friends along the way west, and except for a long day thru TX to ElPaso and a less than wonderful motel there, things have gone well and time w friends was wonderful!
Today was our first full day ON Route 66. Below you can see where we had our first meal on Route 66. Truly was a step back in time. We ate at the counter. The owner/ waitress yelled orders to the cook in the back. Cash only. The food channel’s “diners and dives” had featured this place and the food was good.
The afternoon was very long!! Desert, desert and more desert. Some 66 scenes, but nothing too spectacular or worth pics. Pete thought the scenery beautiful. Me, not as much.
